Tips for attending wedding fairs

As wedding season is officially upon us, lots of you might be attending wedding fairs in your local area to get ideas and suppliers for your big day. There are definitely ways to get the most out of your visit to a wedding fair, and there are also some mistakes to avoid, so today I'm sharing my six best tips with you so you can get the most out of your trip.

1. Look up the exhibitors before you go

Most good wedding fairs will have a directory of exhibitors on their website. Make sure you check this out before you go, so you know who to look out for on your way round!

2. Go with ideas

The more specific you are about what you are looking for, the more likely you are to find it. While it is also good to keep an open mind incase you find something you would never thought of before, having a rough idea of the kind of suppliers you want to find will help you fight overwhelm on the day.

3. Don't take ALL of the leaflets

Wedding fairs can be a little bit of a paper overload, and you might find leaflets being handed to you at every turn. What's the point in accepting leaflets that you are only going to throw in the bin because you're not interested in them? My tip is to be selective about the leaflets you take - this helps you manage your options when you get home, and also saves paper - win win.

4. Chat with the suppliers you like the look of

Don't be shy! I know that wedding fairs can sometimes get a bad rep because people feel pressured by pushy/salesy vendors, but the good ones aren't like that. Most good suppliers just love weddings and people, so feel free to chat to them and ask questions, they are not out there to swindle you.

5. Leave your email address

If you really like the look of a supplier, join their mailing list so they can follow up with you afterwards. This is the best way to make sure you get to work with the people you like, and often they might have deals for people they met on the day.

6. When you get back....

On the same evening, go through all of the leaflets, business cards and pictures you took, and write notes on anything you liked the look of or ideas you had. Also remember to follow the suppliers you liked on social media, because believe me if you leave this task until later you will most likely forget all about them!

I hope this was useful, if you are off to a wedding fair anytime soon then have fun, and don't forget to grab a cocktail while you're there - you're celebrating after all.
